John offers custom tailored music lessons that focus on strong fundamentals in musicianship, theory, and technique. John has experience in all styles of music from classical to rock. His extensive studies in diverse styles of music gives him a unique perspective on both playing and teaching. John’s goal is to make each student an independent, intelligent musician that has the tools to enjoy music for their entire life.
John C. Toedtman holds a Bachelors degree in Double Bass performances from the Peabody Institute of The John Hopkins University. John was a member of the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra between the years of 2000 and 2003. He has also substituted with the Dayton Philharmonic, Richmond Indiana Symphony, West Virgina Symphony, Springfield Symphony, and the Kentucky Symphony. John currently teaches a full schedule of Double bass and electric bass students at the family business, The Toedtman School of Music.
John’s students have won scholarships to Boston University, Peabody Institute, Cleveland Institute of Music, Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, Berkley College of Music, University of Louisville, University of the Arts, Michigan State University, Northern Kentucky University, Southern Utah State University, Bellarmine University, Interlochen Summer Arts Camp, Boston University Tanglewood Institute, and Jamey Aebersold Jazz Camp. John’s students have also been selected to perform with the All State-Jazz Band and Several of the District Honor Jazz bands.
John enjoys performing everything from jazz to steel drum music around the Tri-State area. When John’s not playing music he enjoys spending time with his wife Julietta and their three dogs.
