If you are a middle-school or high-school music student in Cincinnati, you have every reason to be excited about your circumstances.Cincinnati is a city that takes music very seriously, and there is tremendous infrastructure in this metropolitan area to support a focused music student.
Cincinnati’s Music Scene
The Cincinnati Opera and Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra are world-class musical ensembles, drawing from rich and long-lasting traditions. Both groups represent Cincinnati brilliantly to the rest of the musical world, and have extensive recording careers and well as busy and ambitious performance schedules.
We have several terrific college music programs nearby, where new music, composition, music theory, and musicology thrive as disciplines. The University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) features many student and faculty performances on a weekly basis, and other nearby universities like Miami University and Xavier University also produce work of a high caliber.
Cincinnati High School Music Programs
Across the Queen City – near our Sharonville music school and elsewhere – we have high school with remarkable instrumental and vocal music programs. Lakota in West Chester, Princeton, Mason, and Sycamore, in the northern suburbs, all have outstanding music teachers, as do Wyoming, Finneytown, and La Salle to the west.
The School for Creative and Performing Arts (SCPA) and Walnut Hills High School, both part of the Cincinnati Public School, have renowned and well-respected music programs. And in the eastern suburbs, several schools have superb bands, choirs, and orchestras – including Madeira, Mariemont, Milford, Loveland, and Indian Hill.
There are many other high schools in the Tri-State, Greater Cincinnati area with proud traditions of music instruction – more than we can mention here. Rest assured, though, parents and students, that Cincinnati is an excellent area for young scholars looking to develop their musical sensibilities.
