So you have decided you want some guitar lessons! Great, we’ve got you covered! Whether you are an adult guitarist looking to expand your range and technique, an adult who has never played guitar, or a young student looking to begin a musical journey, classical guitar lessons are a very satisfying pursuit.
The beauty of a classical guitar is undeniable. The dark, wood-rich harmonies, the subtle articulation of finger vibrato, and the counterpoint of chord motion and melody are stunning to hear on a single instrument. Musicians like Andrés Segovia, Miloš Karadaglić, Xuefei Yang, and Julian Bream have made recordings on classical guitar that are cherished the world over.
Our classical guitar teacher, Jeremy Collins, is a world-renowned performer and composer. Jeremy has received first prizes from solo guitar competitions in North Carolina, Texas, New York, Georgia, and California, where he won both the Dominguez Hills Solo Competition and the ASTA “Aaron Green” Guitar Competition. At age 16, NPR invited him to perform on their national “From the Top” radio program, and he has performed with the Starling Chamber Orchestra at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC.
Jeremy is also a dedicated teacher, having taught group guitar classes, masterclasses, and private students since 2004. He earned a master’s degree in classical guitar at USC’s Thornton School of Music.
As Jeremy himself writes on his site, “I know how easy it is to get bogged down by technique, difficult practice assignments, and all the challenges of studying music. I try to offer my students the same joy that I discovered through the guitar. While many other instruments require years of study before an aesthetically pleasing sound is achieved, the guitar, much like the piano, is an exception. It can sound good, and be incredibly fun even in its most simple and beginner levels.”
